Will it be hard to learn to surf?

My parents have a friend in California they went to see. Before they left I asked them to bring m back a surfboard. So they did. It is a shortboard tho. I currently live in michigan. Butmaybe be moving to the west coast. I know this guy that surfs on the great lakes. So he will help me. But most of all I snowboard and am very good at it. I also skateboard. I am alright at skateboarding butnot th best. But I'm very good at snowboarding and was wondering if since I have expirence in snowboarding and skateboarding plus have someone helping me if i would be able to learn on a shortboard. I pick up on things very quickly and easily. Th waves are usually 2-5 feet
